The
first issue of Margina appeared in 1994. Until then, there
hadn't been a magazine for culture in Macedonia, which was
treating the contemporary culture, contemporary art,
contemporary theory, new mediums, and translations of
contemporary literature. Before Margina appeared young
authors couldn't find a "space" for publishing,
especially those who have unconventional (subversive to
anachronism of cultural stereotypes) expression. Those were
some of the reasons for starting the magazine.
Firstly, Margina was imagined as a monthly magazine. Then,
in second year of its life, it started appearing every
second month and finally, because of the chronically
financial problems, it is stabilised as a magazine that
appears every third month. If we have a chance to witness
better times, Margina could turn the circle and could become
a monthly magazine again.
