The first is sue

of Lift appeared in January 1995. Until now, we have published 12 issues on over 1200 pages. For domestic authors were reserved 700 pages. From these 700 pages 350 pages were dedicated to a big comic project "Labris" whose authors are Stankovski and Vulkanski. We succeeded in promoting more then 20 authors from Macedonia, mostly debutants.
Lift tries to afirmate the experimental and artistic character of the comic as a medium. We have also dealt with the history of comic, and with some great so called "commercial" authors who have never treated the comic as art but who have left deep traces not only in the medium but also in contemporary pop-culture in general.

Comics in The Lift

The Macedonian comics in movement

This exhibition  is not planed as event that will cover neither the Macedonian contemporary comic scene in its wholeness nor its historical aspect. The comic art in Macedonia has not been developed enough and it hasn't had a logical diahronical evolution (we can't witness a serious support of magazines, theoretical essays, public). In a way, we can say that the fifteen authors whose work is presented with this exhibition are representative of whole comic scene in Macedonia.
Most of them are connected with the fact that in last six years they were publishing theirs comics in Lift, a magazine for alternative and art comics.
This exhibition, metaphorically named Comics in The Lift, should "visit" several cities in Macedonia by the and of the 2000: Strumica (24.11.2000), Gevgelija (09.12.2000), Prilep, Bitola, Kumanovo, Skopje, It is important to emphasize that Comics in The Lift is a part of the project Disseminated Margins supported by the Swiss foundation Pro-Helvetia. We also plane to visit Tetovo, Ohrid, Shtip.
